Why I Decided To Start Writing

Introduction

Just another morning driving into work and stopping at the local Starbucks for programming fuel, developer’s gasoline if you will when I stumbled upon a new podcast that seemed to be pretty popular. It was the Simple Programmer Podcast, hosted by John Sonmez. I know what you are thinking…. who the hell is John Sonmez? That’s what I thought too. As I scrolled through some of the episodes, noticing they were fairly short in length, I decided to give it a shot.

After a couple of episodes, I was hooked! John gives great advice on a number of topics related to programming and career development in general. In a some of the episodes, John kept mentioning a free blogging course he gives via email. I LIKE FREE! So I went to sign up. Lesson 0 was delivered to my inbox, and by the time I was through with it, I was already craving my next lesson. There was something about the way John wrote, that made the whole process of starting a blog seem easy enough that anyone can do it.

“A developer with out a website is a joke.” – Me

That’s what I was telling myself for 2 years, in order to convince myself I needed some sort of web presence. It turns out all I needed was a little bit of guidance (aka a kick in the ass). So far I put up a website, wrote my first post. While it doesn’t seem like much, it is more than I had before taken this email course, and thanks to John, I have a list of about 50 things that I want to write about!
